happy 4th

Happy 4th, everyone! Or I guess I should say, Happy 5th! :) What a crazy week we had last week. Joey went to soccer camp every day...a first for us. He had a blast and has a tan and much blonder hair to prove it. We had our Homeschool Rally at church, a park play date, a fun shopping trip, Lily's summer art class, plus a few other "happenings."

Then on Friday, Scott took off work, hired our nephew for the day, and together they put up the last of the crown molding. Yay! It's finished, our garage is cleaned up, and it looks SO nice! There is some caulking and touch-up for him to finish, but I am so pleased that all of the wood is up and out of the garage. I can't believe they got it all done, it was such a big job.

Saturday we cleaned up and did the typical Saturday stuff: lawn, laundry, prepare for Sunday.

And then on Sunday night after church we had some friends over for dessert and to watch our town's fireworks display. We just stayed here and watched from our street this year...there were too many babies and no one really felt like braving the crowds. The fireworks were great! The only thing I really missed was the "history" that they read before the show. Every year someone reads a portion of the Declaration of Independence, a lesser known writing of one of the signers of the Declaration, and then all of the names of the signers. It's really special, and definitely sings to my history-loving heart. Plus there is patriotic music and a general "small-town" feeling to a really great show.

But we discovered that you can really see quite a bit from our street and we had fun with our friends afterwards. It was a late night for the baby, but she was an angel and slept ELEVEN hours that night! Which, of course, made for a very pleasant Monday for me. :) We did some more "around the house" stuff yesterday, had a little cook-out, and Scott did some fireworks in our very quiet street last night... just us six.

It truly was a happy 4th. How was yours?

Abbi- love those pictures of your sweet babies! We had a great day on the fourth; a bit different in Latin Country, but special still. We had a newly arrived (Christian) family from Cuba join us for celebration. Visit our blog for photos.

These pics are adorable, Abbi!!!!!! You guys probably get a pretty good view of the fireworks, because at Coldwater I know that we could see them before - and there were some just about every Saturday night for a little while during the summer that seemed to come from down your way? Do you guys ever see those, too?

(Also, I keep meaning to message you back! Thank you SO much for the invite to VBS!! Ed manages his warehouse at night, so I'm unable to take the kids to night VBS myself with Emmeline coming...but don't I wish! We'll have to get together at the pirate park sometime over the summer...maybe at the end of August we could do a mama/kid thing and invite a bunch of people for a get-together to start off the school year!)
